Their expertise covers virtually all pediatric conditions, including cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, organ transplants and orthopedics as well care of critically ill newborns.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano with one goal in mind: to achieve victory over cancer. Since its start in 1993, the V Foundation has awarded over $200 million in cancer research grants nationwide and has grown to become one of the premier supporters of cutting-edge cancer research funds.

2016
An initial grant of $600,000 to Leonid Metelitsa, MD, PhD, at Texas Children’s Hospital.
The Posey Fund at the V Foundation made the grant, distributed over three years, to benefit Dr. Metelitsa’s research and development. Dr. Metelitsa is mid-way through the development of a vaccine that will activate the immune system to fight neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system.
2017
Kristen and Buster began a partnership with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
They aim to help discover cures and train the next generation of pediatric cancer researchers.
2018
Supported a $600,000 research grant for pediatric brain tumor immuno-oncology for Dr. David Ashley at Duke Cancer Institute (with matching funds by the V Foundation and the AppleGold group).
Dr. Ashley’s research will provide the evidence needed to start clinical trials in children with brain tumors.
